Srinagar, June 26: If the Central Government goes ahead with the proposed cabinet expansion, Member Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, is likely to be included in the union council of ministers.
Namgyal born on August 4, 1985 is the MP from, India’s largest parliamentary seat geographically.
Prior to joining politics, he served the All Ladakh Student Association, Jammu, in various capacities and as President from 2011 to 2012.
After joining politics as a member of BJP, Leh, he served as Private Secretary to the Member of Parliament from Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang.
He contested the election of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh in 2015 from Martselang Constituency.
He won with record margin to be elected as Councillor in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.
Later after the resignation of Dorjay Motup from the post of Chief Executive Councillor, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal was elected as 8th Chief Executive Councillor to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.
BJP had fielded JTN from Ladakh parliamentary constituency in the 2019 elections, which he won with a comfortable margin.
Sources said that “the names of prominent BJP leaders,including Namgayal, whoc could be included in the union cabinet are also making rounds in this regard”.
Speculations about cabinet expansion have been making rounds after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda.
It’s in place to mention here that PM Modi has not expanded his cabinet since the formation of NDA-II in May 2019.
Meanwhile according to the reports leaders who are in the foray to be a part of the cabinet include Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dinesh Trivedi, Bhupender Yadav, Ashwini Baishnab, Varun Gandhi, former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The second Modi government has 57 ministers (24 Cabinet Ministers, 9 Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 24 Ministers of State), 12 more than it had in its first tenure.
Namgyal had hogged the headlines n 2019 when he delivered a fiery speech in the Parliament over the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
The speech which had gone viral also earned praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Namgyal’s August 6, 2019 speech in the Parliament won all-round appreciation, including from the BJP leadership, colleagues, peers in Parliament and those outside who were watching the proceedings on television. He made his mark as a parliamentarian and has become a star in the BJP’s ranks.
Sources said that the portfolios which could see changes include Industry and commerce, law, agriculture, HRD, civil aviation, Steel and Food Processing.
As per media reports, underperforming ministers might be dropped from the cabinet and a few new faces are likely to be inducted.
