Early Times Report

Jammu, June 26: Even as the Union Government has decided to hold dialogue with representatives of Ladakh to address issues pertaining to cold-desert, serious differences have been cropped between leaders of Leh and Kargil on important demands.
While as Apex Body of the Peoples’ Movement of Ladakh (Leh) has demanded Union Territory with the legislature, the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA)-dominated by National Conference and Congress leaders have decided to raise the demand for full statehood to Ladakh.
Highly placed sources said that during their crucial meeting held this evening at Kargil to discuss invitation of the Union Government for talks, KDA leaders decided that they will raise the demand of full statehood for Ladakh, knowing that their counterparts in Leh have demanded ‘UT with Legislature’.
Sources said that some NC and Congress leaders in the KDA said that during their meeting with Union Government they will also raise the demand of restoring Article 370 and 35-A.
Apex Committee of Leh, a powerful platform representing various politicians, religious and social organizations, has demanded 6th Schedule of the Constitution with powers for protection and safeguarding interests of the local population.
Meanwhile after meeting with leaders of mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the Union Government has now invited leaders of Kargil to discuss issues pertaining to the mountainous region.
