Early Times Report

Anantnag, June 30: In a bid to curb crowding and possible COVID-19 resurgence at famed tourist spot Pahalgam, the Anantnag district administration today made hotel booking confirmation a pre-requisite for visiting the tourist spot.
District Magistrate Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla issued a detailed order and banned the entry of day picnickers on weekends and enforcement of COVID-19 appropriate behavior at the famed tourist spot.
The District Magistrate, who is also the chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), says that it was observed that a large number of people were thronging Pahalgam on weekends and this heavy influx of local tourists’ poses danger for resurgence of COVID-19.
“On Saturday and Sunday, only such persons/tourists shall be allowed to proceed towards Pahalgam who possess a proof of confirmed hotel booking in the hotels of Pahalgam,” DM ordered. The DM also banned the entry of day picnickers on weekends. No day picnickers shall be allowed to visit Pahalgam on Saturday and Sunday,” reads the order.
SDPOs Srigufwara and Aishmuqam have been asked to establish checkpoints at Aishmuqam, Langanbal, Nunwan and Srigufwara to ensure only bona-fide tourists having advance hotel bookings are allowed an entry.
Further, SSP has been asked to work out ways to reduce the influx of visitors to the site while traffic authorities will ensure smooth movement of vehicles especially at congestion points. To ensure the enforcement of COVID-19 appropriate behavior, DM authorized CEO PDA, SDM Pahalgam, SDPO and EO MC Pahalgam to constitute special teams and imposes a fine of Rs 1000 on individuals who they spot violating COVID-19 SOPs including mask wearing.
The order also prohibited haphazard pitching of tents and cooking at random places and directed concerned officials to designate particular areas for the tents. Tehsildar Pahalgam and Assistant Director Tourism have been directed to ensure compliance to Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) by all the hotels.
