Mehbooba Mufti set to say goodbye to Gupkar Alliance
Week after All Party Meeting, cracks wide & open
7/1/2021 11:42:28 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 1: Days after attending the All-Party Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi on June 24, President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is all set to bid adieu to the Gupkar Alliance- an amalgam of various political outfits seeking the restoration of the special status that was removed on August 4, 2019.
Sources within the party divulged that recently a meeting of PDP leaders chaired by Mehbooba Mufti was held in Srinagar. During the meeting the issue about whether to remain in the Gupkar Alliance or not was discussed threadbare and that the majority view was about bidding adieu to the conglomerate as soon as possible. “There should have been unity among the parties of the Gupkar alliance while meeting PM Modi during the All Party Meeting,” Mehbooba is understood to have told the PDP leaders. Sources said that is the reason for the scheduled meeting of the Gupkar leaders not being held even after repeated delays. Mehbooba Mufti seem annoyed as she had stated that instead of fighting for the lost special status of Jammu and Kashmir those who were representing the Gupkar alliance were fighting with each other. “She has been stating that there is no unity of thought among PAGD leaders. There is every possibility about PDP leaving the alliance in toto,” sources said. It’s in place to mention here that NC and PDP are the major parties in the alliance. If any of these parties break away from the alliance, then the PAGD will almost cease to exist. Earlier, in December, last year, there were fissures within the amalgam after the DDC elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir. After the results of the DDC polls were announced, subtle cracks within the Gupkar alliance were becoming visible with the conglomerate leaders preferring to hold separate press conferences- eulogizing their own self more than the joint alliance
