Irony! Delhi gets 200 units electricity free, Jammu faces cuts even after paying for every unit
7/1/2021 11:58:55 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 1: Despite Delhi being a metropolitan city, consumers are provided free electricity upto 200 units and from 200 to 400 they are charged 50% of the actual cost. The consumers get power 24x7 and are not left to fend on their own during the summer season.
This year Jammu has witnessed massive power outages amidst the sweltering heat. “People pay hefty electricity bills every month and on top of that face pesky power cuts. In Spite of paying for each and every unit they consume, the Power Department has failed to live up to the expectations of the people,” said Gurmeet Singh.
He said, “Delhi is far bigger than Jammu but people get free electricity there and they get it round the clock. In Jammu we are not asking for electricity for free, we just want uninterrupted power supply during the summer months so that we are able to at least sleep in peace. Unscheduled power cuts have turned Jammu into a hell.”
Another consumer Pinky Arora said, “In summer season people are completely dependent on electronic gadgets like air conditioners, fridges and fans. The power cut means that everything stops working. It’s unfortunate that even in 21st century, the government has failed to develop a system that could provide electricity round the clock.”
It’s in place to mention here that last month during a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat here, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had assured the people of Jammu division that a Committee will be constituted by the Chief Secretary to enquire into the recent unscheduled power outage in various areas, despite LG’s assurance the Power Department has announced more cuts on one pretext or the other.
