Lower Roop Nagar residents stage protest against pesky power cuts
7/3/2021 12:32:28 AM
Early times Report

Jammu, June 2: Prolonged and unscheduled power cuts in Lower Roop Nagar area amid increasing temperature forced the local residents to stage a protest against the Power Development Department.
“Already we were facing problems due to erratic power supply but now some of the power cables of this area have broken due to which the residents of sector 1, 2 and 3 are without electricity since last night but till date PDD has not restored it,” the residents alleged while raising slogans against the department.
They allegedly said that the department has been sleeping despite knowing the fact that the entire Jammu has been facing power cuts. “It has become difficult to spend time without power in the area. We can’t sleep properly and get water supply after three days but there is nobody in the department to take note of our problems,” they alleged.
They further said that it seems that they have been living in far flung areas. “Although government has been claiming to make Jammu a smart city, under such conditions it doesn’t seem like that. Even the common people are deprived of basic amenities. The slogans of smart city are just rhetoric,” they said.
They further informed that although the concerned Corporator has shown helplessness in sorting out the problem. “Bureaucracy in Jammu and Kashmir has jeopardized the public service delivery. Nobody in the department listens to the problems of the common people,” they alleged. The electrical home appliances are not working without electricity and still the broken power cables are lying as it is but the department has not reached to restore it. “Our areas are totally metered yet we are not given proper power supply. If their problems were not redressed at the earliest we will block national highways to get justice,” they said.
