Power outages, water shortage add to woes of Ward No 7 residents
7/3/2021 12:33:32 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, July 2: Unscheduled power cuts in several localities of Jammu city continue unabated amid soaring mercury for the last couple of days.
Many residential areas in Ward No 7 of Jammu city are not only experiencing long and unscheduled power cuts but they are also facing acute shortage of water due to irregular water supply that too on odd hours.
Several residents of Ward No 7 allege that authorities were not able to follow the curtailment schedules as the outages prolonged in this sweltering heat.
“We hardly receive power supply for three to four hours a day, we live in darkness in the evening when it is most needed,” said one of the residents.
“It is really difficult to cope up without electricity in this hot and humid weather conditions,” they added.
In some areas of the Ward, residents complained that they were not supplied electricity for the entire day on Thursday. “The department is forcing us to come on roads to protest against them. They act only when people resort to protest. In 24 hours we hardly get three to four hours of electricity,” said a resident. “We are regularly paying the power consumption bills but still our areas are lacking electricity, we are not even getting electricity at the time of dinner,” he added. While there were others who minced no words on the erratic water supply scenario in their localities. They said that the entire ward is facing acute water shortage due to the irregular water supply.
“We are not getting adequate water supply. PHE not only supplies water irregularly but it also fails to keep a fixed schedule to provide water to the households. The department often supplies water late in the evening which is quite disturbing for the people especially women,” said the aggrieved residents.
