Inefficient administration force ‘strategic assets’ to come on streets against power cuts
8/19/2021 11:21:31 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 19: Agitation launched by the border dwellers of the Arnia sector against unscheduled power curtailment has exposed tall claims of the administration to streamline power supply.
Failure of the administration to ensure power supply in the border area is a serious issue because the uninterrupted power supply is required to keep a watch on the activities of anti-national elements.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh has recently described people living on the borders as “no ordinary citizens but India’s strategic assets”. But inefficient J&K administration has forced these ‘strategic assets’ to come on the roads for the demand of power.
On the eve of Independence Day, border dwellers from different Panchayats of the Arnia sector came on the streets against power curtailment and locked the office of the Power Development Department (PDD).
Sarpanch of the border village of Treva, Balbir Kour, who earned the appreciation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Maan Ke Baat’ was at the forefront to lead the protest.
While addressing the gathering she especially highlighted security threats due to complete black-out in the border belts during nights.
She said that on the one hand farmers could not cultivate their crops due to the non-availability of power while on the other hand, this is the biggest security threat.
On the one hand, Pakistani drones are continuously intruding in the border belts to drop arms, but authorities of J&K have failed to even ensure power supply in the highly sensitive areas.
Border dwellers aired apprehension that anti-national elements would take advantage of the non-availability of power during the evening. They pointed out that after July 15, the power scenario has become worst in this belt, for reasons best known to the authorities.
Locals alleged that those at the helm of the affairs are taking the people of Jammu for granted. While the areas, where palatial bungalows of Babus are situated are getting round-the-clock power supply but in the highly sensitive border areas, uninterrupted power supply during the night is still a distant dream.
