| Strange! Govt wants to connect Purmandal through tourism circuit | | Tirath Sthan in shambles; victim of neglect, official apathy | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 19: Government has announced to develop pilgrim tourism circuit connecting Mata Vaishno Devi, Purmandal- Utterbehni, Mansar-Surinsar and Shiv Khori, but it seems to be yet another announcement made without taking into account the ground situation.
Purmandal, an ancient sacred place (tirath sthan), visited by thousands of devotees in Jammu region has been completely neglected by the government.
Due to lack of maintenance the entire area around Puramandal is in ruins. The park has turned into a jungle as it has not been maintained.
According to the locals the tirath sthan is spread over hundreds of kanal of land is in the name of Lord Shiva. “Such an important religious destination has been neglected by all the regimes in Jammu and Kashmir. No development has taken place during all the years,” locals said.
The bathrooms constructed by Mansar Surinsar Development Authority have no water and toilets are in a dilapidated condition. One can see garbage and filth scattered around in the entire area. “The tall claims of development are a hoax. Nothing has happened on the ground. You can see for yourself how the government has neglected this place,” locals said.
The buildings that were constructed by former Maharajas to accommodate the devotees have not been repaired for the past many years. The Dharmatma Trust entrusted with the job to maintain the temple too has failed to live upto the expectations of the people.
Women devotees who visit Puramandal face a lot of difficulties due to washrooms being unfit for human use. Locals said that the government should wake up from deep slumber to save Jammu’s heritage. Despite ground situation being grim and Purmandal being in shambles the government wants to connect it with tourism circuit. Isn’t it strange! If the government is really sincere then it should take up the renovation of Purmandal and its reconstruction at the war footing basis. Mere announcements are not going to help anyone’s cause. |
