ET ground report shatters propaganda, Govt schemes for people a rhetoric
Schools, Anganwadi centers in Rajouri without piped water

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 20: Even as, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha is trying his best to provide basic amenities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the officials seem to be in no mood to implement his directions on ground. His announcements are turning to be mere rhetoric. The information being provided to the Centre and the LG seems to be unauthentic and misleading.
Recently the J&K administration informed the Union Government that pure drinking water is provided to all schools and Anganwari centres across the Union Territory, but the ground situation contradicts the claim.
Early Times team visited Primary School Chontra at Village Chawa in Rajouri district. Locals while talking to ET revealed that they have to walk 2 to 3 kilometers to fetch a pale of water. “There are no PHE lines in our village. In fact no one has bothered to ever pay attention towards our village having no tap water facility,” locals said.
They said, “There are no water connections in Anganwadi centers and schools. Everything is in a mess.”
An officer of the Jal Shakti Department disclosed that it’s difficult rather impossible to provide pure drinking water in schools and Anganwadi centres due to the non-availability of infrastructure. “What to say of providing pure drinking water in all schools, we have yet not provided tap water in all villages due to topography of some areas”, the officer said and expressed surprise over reports prepared by higher-ups regarding the supply of pure drinking water in all schools.
It’s in place to mention here that the bureaucrats have set the target to ensure supply of pure drinking water in all schools and Anganwari centre, but the officials who have prepared a report have never visited Kandi and remotest areas of Jammu province. They are unaware of the ground realities and the problems being faced by a common man. An observer said, “These babus should stop misleading the Centre by doing so they are not serving anyone’s cause and are causing an irreparable damage.”
