SMVDU organizes athletic meet

JAMMU, Aug 30: On the occasion of National Sports Day, a two-day athletic meet was organized at SMVDU, which culminated on 29th August 2021. The meet included track & field events namely, shot put, javelin throw, 100-meter sprint and tug of war. The event saw participation from residents of the university campus comprising of faculty members, staff members and their family members.
The meet was conducted to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand "Wizard of Hockey". The meet was a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Fit India Movement programs being conducted at the university. The winners were awarded medals in different categories viz male, female & children under the age of 14 in all the events. The Chief Guest for the medal distribution ceremony was the Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU Padam Shri Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha. Dean, student welfare Dr. Balbir Singh was also present in the ceremony. The athletic meet was organized by the Sports wing of the university under the leadership of Parvez Singh Slathia, I/c Sports wing & nodal officer, Fit India movement, SMVDU. The organizing team comprised of Dr. Kamaldeep, Vice President, Board for Sports Activities, Balbir Singh and Sumit Sharma, Sports coaches along with the helping staff of the sports wing. The organizers expressed their gratitude to Vice-Chancellor for providing the motivation and guidance for conducting the event.
