One of the victim’s,Sidiq Ahmed said that on August 28 there was a torrential rain and next day morning the land above the under-construction NH44 started sliding slowly which kept on increasing resulting into the cracks in his house comprising of 4 rooms and 2 verandahs. “Another house of my brother Ikhtiyar Ahmed and one more structure also developed cracks following which we had to abandon our homes,” he said.
Local Sarpanch, Dilawar Ali said the under construction houses of three other persons Zakir Ali, Sidiq Ahmed and Ayaz Ahmed too have developed cracks.
Sidiq said, “The NHAI has been sitting on my file since February 2018 for the acquisition of my property and the payment of due compensation. The concerned engineers had ruled out any imminent damage to my property. Had they settled my claim on time, I could have shifted to some other place rather than facing the ordeal today.”
