Jammu, Sept 9: To celebrate India’s largest carnival on butterflies ‘The Big Butterfly Month India 2021’, IQAC-NAAC and Department of Zoology, GGM Science College under the patronage of worthy Principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo kick started a series of Webinar cum workshops for different Schools and Colleges of Union Territory of J&K.
Today was the first talk of the series which was organized in Collaboration with School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu. The speaker and Coordinator BBMI_2021 J&K Chapter Dr Shakha Sharma explained the participants about the basics of butterfly identification, counting and online uploading in different national Portals like I Found Butterflies, INaturalist and India Biodiversity Portal.
Some Questioners were also given to students during the session to familiarize them with the basic difference between Moths and Butterflies. She also elaborated them about 30 minutes count and its significance.
Students also practiced posting Butterfly photographs on National Web Portals. Many such workshops will be organized in this month to to acquaint students and other butterfly enthusiasts about butterfly identification, its diversity and Count, which would definitely bring the hitherto butterfly rich but under-represented union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to limelight in the north western Himalayas.
