Irked by ‘corrupt’ babus, residents raise posters for LG Sinha
Urge him to direct SMC to stop illegal constructions in their area
9/9/2021 11:50:48 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 9: With no end to illegal constructions in the summer capital of Srinagar coupled with the unwillingness of the officials to listen to the public woes, the residents have raised life size posters and hoardings seeking intervention of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha.
It’s believed to be for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that locals are so irked by the allegedly cold response of the officials towards complaints of corruption and illegal constructions that the locals have raised hoardings to seek Raj Bhawan’s intervention.
“Appeal to Honorable LG. Direct SMC to stop illegal constructions in our area. Inhabitants of Omar Colony, Mohalla Khulafai Rashideen,” the Lal Bazar have raised the hoardings.
The aggrieved locals said they had several times approached the officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation with the complaints that illegal commercial constructions were taking place in the residential colony.
The locals said despite repeated reminders no was action as the “Babus sounded indifferent towards the genuine complaints.” “But as our colony was being converted into commercial menace we pooled out money from our pockets to raise hoardings and other posters to seek the intervention of the honorable Lieutenant Governor,” the locals said.
Its pertinent to mention that scores of “multi –crore illegal constructions” have been coming up in Srinagar for the last two years, while the officials are silent over the issue.
Interestingly even though the government had brought an official from Rajasthan to streamline working at the SMC, sources said “he has been unable to deliver.”
When contacted a senior official while talking to Early Times on the condition of anonymity said the “public complaints were not true.”
“Government is more than happy with our(SMC) performance and you can check the same from Baj Bhawan,” he said.
