EArly Times Report

Anantnag, Sept 9: From past six months, Biochemistry Analyzer is defunct at Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Biochemistry Analyzer is an instrument used to conduct vital tests of patients.
MCCH is located at Sher Bagh Anantnag. In absence of the Biochemistry Analyzer, patients have to visit either Government Medical College Janglat Mandi or get the tests done at a private laboratory.
A doctor at the MCCH told KNT that six months back Biochemistry Analyzer developed a technical snag. He said ‘Medicity’ that has supplied this instrument has failed to repair or replace it and it has been resorting to dilly dally tactics.
The tests which could not be conducted due to dysfunctional instrument include Kidney Function Test, Liver Function Test, Uric Acid, Lipid Profile, Blood Sugar, Antistreptolysin O and C-Reactive Protein.
The doctor said patients are suffering badly as according to them “Biochemistry Analyzer acts as a ‘backbone’ of the hospital.
From past six months, patients are asked to get the tests conducted somewhere else.
Medical Superintendent, MCCH, Dr Muhammad Shafi said superiors have been informed already about the issue, but nothing is being done. “We have written two letters, one to the previous Principal GMC Anantnag and second to the incumbent one, and we are still waiting for the response,” he said.
When contacted, Principal GMC Anantnag, Professor Tariq Syed Qureshi said that Bio-Chemistry Analyzer is functional at MCCH. When informed that it is defunct and this reporter is calling from the hospital room, he said measures will be taken to make the equipment functional and it will be working within two to three days.
