Irony! After making life miserable of native businessmen, J&K admin signing MoUs with outsiders

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 18: On one hand the Jammu and Kashmir Government is busy signing Memorandums of Understanding with the foreign companies and is luring them to invest in the Union Territory but on the other hand it has made the life miserable for local businessmen in Jammu.
On Monday J&K administration signed a MoU with the Dubai Government for real estate development, industrial parks and to build infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. The government claimed that it would help the Union Territory to scale new heights in industrialization and sustainable growth. The accord has been signed at a time when the region is seeing resurgence in violence. No figure for the value of the accord was given.
The investment is fraught with risks as evidenced by a spate of terrorist attacks on civilians. On Monday, the authorities moved thousands of migrant workers in Kashmir to safer locations overnight.
A Jammu based businessman while talking to Early Times said, Doing business in Jammu has become a Herculean task. The existing business units have suffered massive losses due to the arbitrary decisions taken by the UT government. During the past two years many taxes have been levied and natives have been sidelined.”
He said that before August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided it into two union territories— they could approach the politicians to get their issues resolved but since the day bureaucrats have become the bosses, things have become difficult for them. “They (bureaucrats) don’t want to meet us and listen to our woes. Students, businessmen, doctors, contractors and members of other sections of the society have staged protests in the recent past to make themselves heard,” the businessman said.
He said that J&K Govt’s decision to scrap Darbar Move practice has hit the Jammu region hard. “The decision will lead to a lesser number of people visiting Jammu and has hit every section of the society in the region,” he added.
Another businessman said that before signing MoUs with the foreign companies the J&K administration needs to pay attention towards the local businessmen who are mulling to migrate to other states as doing business in the region has become difficult.
