Early Times Report

Rajouri, Dec 7: Touts and agents of private medical agencies allegedly in connivance with the hospital staff are looting patients at Government Medical College and Anicarlly Hospital here.
According to the details available with Early Times a number of outsiders particularly agents and touts of private medical shops are seen warning the helpless patients against the quality of the free or subsidised generic medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendra inside the hospital. “There seems to be a close nexus between the touts and insiders within the hospital,” alleged a source.
Pertinently, the patients are provided generic medicines at subsidised rates at Jan Aushadhi Kendras inside the hospital. But due to the alleged illegal connivance between the agents and government employees of GMC&AH, the very purpose of Jan Aushadhi Kendras gets defeated as the gullible and helpless patients are made to purchase costly branded medicines from private medical shops.
“Once the doctor writes the prescription, these agents swing into action. They immediately develop communication with the gullible patients and keep warning them about the quality of generic medicines available inside the Jan Aushadhi Kendras. They then take the patients to the private pharmacies and loot them shamelessly,” said a source.
In the past also some touts and agents were apprehended by GMC administration and handed over to the Police, but the agent and tout system keeps on reappearing.
It can be corroborated from the CCTV footage available inside the GMC that touts are seen roaming inside the hospital. They are purposelessly found misleading the gullible and helpless patients.
Large number of poor patients visit Govt Hospital as they cannot afford the expensive private treatment. The administration needs to take strict action against not only the touts but also the insiders who, for petty monetary favours are defeating the very purpose of Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
Despite repeated attempts officials of GMC&AH Rajouri didn’t pick up the phone.
