Swachh Bharat Abhiyan goes for toss in SKIMS
Scores of stray dogs roam freely, garbage dumping site remains unattended for days
12/7/2021 11:06:56 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 7: The premier health institute of Kashmir-SKIMS is wreaking havoc on peoples’ lives. The administration of the institution seems least interested to safeguard the lives of patients as the sanitation facilities have gone for a toss.
The institute that otherwise should have been a model place for sanitation and cleanliness has become an abode for stray dogs. The canines are shockingly unleashing terror in the institute premises, roaming sometimes freely even in the corridors with no concerned official even moved to keep a check on such a dreadful menace.
One is astonished to find the stray dogs in hordes roaming around the pubic canteen of the hospital and they are not in tens but in dozens, making the sanitation facilities in the hospital a laughing stock. The pictures the attendants have shared with us provide a clear scenario of how dilapidated the condition of the hospital is and how monstrous lies about the prospering of the hospital are sold to the outer world by those at the helm in its administration. “There was not even a single effort made by the administration to put a lid over the dog menace in the hospital.
Canines in hundreds are seen everywhere and particularly near the public canteen. I mean this is a hospital and for God sake tell me where in the world have you seen the health institute in such a pathetic shape. It is here and here alone,” says an attendant.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the hospital administration blamed the attendants for the issue. According to the administration, the attendants throw the meal residue in the open spaces which gets stray dogs towards the spot. “Everyone has a role in it. You cannot blame us for something we haven’t invented,” says senior official pleading anonymity.
However, attendants blame the hospital authorities of turning a blind eye towards maintaining sanitation and hygiene within the hospital premises and that instead of curing the diseases, the hospital ironically is spreading many. “This is the clean India mission and we are seeing the best example of how the SKIMS administration is throwing the norms and guidelines to the wind. This is unacceptable and will belittle the efforts of the Prime Minister to realize the dream of clean India. Here in Kashmir, the premier institute is infested with stray dogs. The administration fears none and has least fears of any repercussions. Now tell us, where a poor man would go,” says an attendant from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The garbage dumping site on the other hand also remains without cleaning for days together, generating an odour that engulfs even the adjacent wards of the institute.
The administration of the SKIMS here too makes the least effort in ensuring sanitation in such crucial premises.
