Anantnag, Dec 24: The SMC Corporator from Rajbagh on Friday claimed that Srinagar Presentation Convent School management was illegally running a poultry farm on the land which was leased out to it for educational purposes.
Seeking action against the school management, Shaheena Bhat wrote to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and apprised him about the matter.
“The land was provided to this institution for educational purposes but they are using 40 kanals of this land for commercial purposes by running a poultry farm on it,” Shaheena told Early Times over phone.
She also shared a copy of the letter she has written to DM Srinagar with this newspaper.
“State exchequer is at loss as peanuts are paid to the government. They are running illegal commercial activities as revenue officials are hand-in-glove with them (School Management),” she claimed.
Shaheena also threatened to protest on roads if the action wasn’t taken and the illegally functioning poultry farm wasn’t shut.
The SMC Corporator has reportedly also forwarded this letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, J&K LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta (IAS) and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P .K Pole (IAS).
Spread over 12 acres of land, the Convent School management is paying 12,000 per year as rent for the land which was worth over 400 Cr Rupees.
