Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 24: Even as the Modi government aspires to retrieve government land from grabbers in Jammu and Kashmir, an “influential businessman” close to the corridors of power in J&K has allegedly grabbed a prized chunk of government land in Karalsangri, Nishat area of Srinagar.
Sources said the businessman has claimed “proprietary rights” on the huge chunk of government land in one of the costliest areas overlooking the famed Dal Lake and Zaberwan range.
It was reliably learnt that some senior officials in the administration have been “out of the way silent” over the complaints of land grab against the businessman.
Sources said initially the “deal” to grab the government had commenced during the regimes of the dynasts but that they too had declined to help the said family apprehending inquiry.
“But now when New Delhi wants retrieval of government land, this particular businessman is being helped by the corridors of power in Jammu and Kashmir,” said the senior official on the condition of anonymity. It was reliably learnt that the businessman comes from the family which has been in news for wrong reasons for the last around a decade. “This family has been into big shady deals. Once their close relative was once caught by police for his involvement in a high profile scam in Mumbai,” said a source privy to the matter.
The family had also managed to get “fraudulent permission” for construction of a hotel in restricted area in Srinagar. “And now their relative is grabbing government land,” said the official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said while a complaint in this regard had come to notice of the government, no action was taken.
A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that “Lobbying is on to help this businessman in his bid to grab the land which actually belongs to the government.”
Despite repeated attempts the concerned were not available for comments.
But a senior official said on the condition of anonymity that New Delhi should order a high level probe into the matter “as some powerful and mighty in JK administration seem to be helping him.”
