Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Residents of the Srinagar city have mocked at the plans of the administration to start bicycle sharing system in the city saying that the plan is full of faults since the roads are in pitiable condition across the length and breadth of the city.
A group of residents while sharing views with Early Times said that the administration should repair the roads in Srinagar and then think of an innovative step of staring bicycle sharing system in the city. They said that people are suffering like anything in absence of quality roads with the people at helm doing very little to improve the situation in this regard.
“The administration has failed to improve the basic amenities of the people of Srinagar. The administration believes more in rhetoric rather than action when it comes to Srinagar and its residents. The time has come when they should pull up their socks and take people centric measures,” said the residents.
The residents said that most of the roads in the Srinagar district have developed pot-holes and ditches over the years with the people at helm continuing to be oblivious of the problems of the common masses. They demanded that the administration should take pro-active measures so that people heave a sigh of relief.
“The public transport system is in shambles in Srinagar and very few steps have been taken to improve the same. Instead of thinking of starting the public bicycle sharing system the administration should improve the public transport system across the length and breadth of the Srinagar district,” the residents said.
The residents said that as soon as dusk approaches the public transport system goes off the roads and the hapless people are forced to board auto-rickshaws in order to reach their respective destinations. They said that public transport system needs to be improved adding that more than 90 percent people don’t have access to their own means of transport.
It would be in place to mention here that the administration under the Srinagar Smart City project intends to introduce the public bicycle sharing system so as to reduce the pollution levels in the city. However, the plan is faulty given the fact that the road network system is in shambles across the Srinagar district.
