Threat of Third Wave: Jammu records single-day highest case in six months; Babus busy in cheap publicity
• COVID trajectory in Jammu touching peak of deadly second wave
1/4/2022 11:32:29 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 4: While Jammu-the winter capital of the Union Territory recorded 58 fresh Corona cases during the last 24 hours, those at the helm of the affairs appear to be busy in just cheap publicity to misguide Union Government.
As per an official handout issued by the Health Department on Tuesday evening, Jammu district recorded 58 fresh COVID cases which is the single-day highest during the last six months.
The last time more than 50 fresh Coronavirus cases were recorded was on June 18, 2021, during the deadly second wave of the COVID-19. Jammu district witnessed death dance during May and June 2021 when the health sector was succumbed due to the pressure of patients.
Among 226 fresh cases in Jammu province including 53 from reported from Jammu district, 46 Doda, 36 Ramban, 24 Rajouri, 20 Kishtwar, 16 Poonch, 12 Kathua, 11 Udhampur, six Reasi and two in Samba district.
Sources in the administration said that except for conducting meetings for publicity nothing concrete has been done to face possible third wave which appeared to be knocking door to Jammu district.
“Meetings after meetings are going on but no effective action has been taken to rectify mistakes which were observed during the second wave”, sources said and revealed that neither staff has been deployed to operate ventilators sanctioned in district and sub-district hospitals nor instruments have been supplied in the hospital.
As reported earlier by this news paper, the Health and Medical Education Department was asked to constitute a medical advisory team consisting of field experts in virology, epidemiology, and microbiology to provide multi-dimensional scientific recommendations for evidence-based scientific management of COVID but nothing has been done in this regard.
In June it was also announced to set up two Genome Sequencing laboratories in Jammu as well as in Srinagar to face any situation during the possible third wave.
Even after the passing of six months, these laboratories are nowhere in J&K. Recently three Omicron cases were detected in Jammu but samples of these patients were sent for Genome Sequencing in National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Delhi.
