KVK Reasi organizes training programme for rural youth

REASI, Jan 7: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organized training programme on "Commercial floriculture" here at KVK, Reasi Reasi campus which was enthusiastically attended by the number of floriculturists and aspiring entrepreneurs of the district. The programme was organized under the ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project. All SOPs pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic were strictly followed while conducting the programme. The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. JP Sharma and guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the objectives of the ARYA project and discussed on the agri-entrepreneurship development among the rural youths. He said that ARYA project is an opportunity for the youths to showcase their creativity through agri-entrepreneurship.
He motivated the trainees for commercial floriculture and guided them about the scientific cultivation of marigold.
Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist guided the participants on nursery raising techniques, Integrated Pest and Disease Management in floriculture.
He said that rural youths can generate more income and employment by commercial farming of floral crops. Rural youth thanked KVK scientists for organizing the useful training programmes especially for the rural youths of the area. Rural youth also visited the technological units of KVK Reasi and were highly impressed by observing the technologies demonstrated by KVK Reasi. In this programme, participants asked certain queries which KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. During the programme quality knapsack sprayers were also distributed to the rural youths. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and Sanjay Kumar and concluded by Dr Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
