Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 7: In a development that has set the alarm bells ringing at the ski resort of Gulmarg, a young skier has tested positive for the deadly Covid but the administration is “unwilling to give up with the skiing courses.” Sources said one of the students of a leading missionary school in the Srinagar who was undergoing a skiing course at Gulmarg tested positive for the deadly disease which is fast griping the world into the third wave.
The sources said the infected student who has been sent back home has been kept in isolation as she is showing the signs of the ailment.
Sources said as the news of the Covid outbreak at Gulmarg spread, the parents of other kids undergoing the skiing course approached the administration seeking cancellation of the skiing course. People from across the country are visiting Gulmarg for holidaying these days.
“We approached the concerned with the humanitarian request that the skiing course should be cancelled as the virus has reached the slopes but we’re asked to take things lightly as skiing course could not be cancelled,” a delegation of parents told Early Times.

said what was shocking was that an official told that “the administration has been asked to continue with the skiing course it was giving a good picture of administration.”
“What kind of administration is this that running a ski course takes precedence over human life,” the parents said.
The parents said in case their families get infected with the Covid, the Jammu and Kashmir administration will be solely responsible. A senior doctor in the know of the matter said ideally the skiing course should been cancelled instantly.
“Lot of skiers especially of this age move around together, Gulmarg can be become a Covid hotspot. Don’t know why government is so concerned about skiing at the cost of Covid advisory as released by the Central Government,” the medico said on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted a senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that the skiing course cannot be canceled over complaints of Covid and that protocols were being adhered to. Pertinently the central government has directed the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to follow laid down norms for the prevention of the ailment.
