SUNDERBANI, Jan 12: The higher-ups in the education department seem to be least interested in filling up the vacant post of Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of zone Lower Hattal in Tehsil Sunderbani of District Rajouri.
Reports said that after the retirement of the previous ZEO no efforts have been made by the respective department in installing new ZEO. "Instead of installing new ZEO, the senior officers in the department gave charge of the post to the principal of one of the colleges," said an official of the department, wishing anonymity, adding that additional duty to the principal has literally brought the zonal education activities in limbo.
Meanwhile, teachers in the zone wishing anonymity said that due to the unavailability of the ZEO many of the important matters remain unaddressed. "It is important to note that principal, who has been installed as an in-charge ZEO, remains occupied with his academics, due to which he cannot invest much time in zonal office," alleged teachers, adding that despite waiting for hours outside the office of ZEO, they have to return back disappointed.
Teachers and locals in the zone requested the LG administration in general and the education department, in particular, to appoint full-time ZEO in the zone, so that the education sector may not suffer. Despite repeated attempts, Director Education Jammu was not available for comments. |
