Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 13: The J&K Government on Thursday directed officials and employees of Rural Development Department to hold Virtual Surya Namaskar functions.
The officials and employees have been directed to arrange virtual Surya Namaskar under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahoutsav Program on 14th of January 2022 (Today). “Director Rural Development Department Jammu/Kashmir along with staff shall observe Surya Namaskar on 14th of January 2022,”reads a detailed order issued by the Government.
The order also directed BDO’s and ACD’s to hold similar functions in their offices. “The Surya Namaskar shall be performed at Panchayat Levels where gross root level functionaries shall participate,” it further reads.
The officials have been directed to videograph the events and later upload videos and pictures on indiaat75.nic.in website. The order includes details of the background of Surya Namaskar and steps to be taken for performing it.
Director Colleges, Higher Education too have issued a similar order and asked faculty members and students to participate in the event.
On 10th of January, GoI, Secretary to the Ministry of Ayush issued directions for performing Surya Namaskar on the eve of Holy Makar Sankranti which is being celebrated on 14th of January.
Holy Makar Sankranti is the festival of thanksgiving to Mother Nature for spreading health, wealth and happiness around, reads an official communiqué.
The Ministry of Ayush has written to Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories and asked them to issue directions to officials for making this event successful.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti called PR Misadventure.
“GOIs PR Misadventures aim to demean and collectively humiliate Kashmiris. Forcing students and staff to perform Surya-Namaskar by issuing orders despite their oblivious discomfort with imposition of something laden with religious connotations gives an insight into their communal mindset,” she tweeted.
