Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 19: Teachers working with the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department are doing everything except teaching in the schools.
An observer while talking to Early Times said, “The teachers are being used by the government to do all the odd jobs. These jobs can include preparing electoral rolls, preparing data of the Covid patients, working on the files in the offices of the Education Department and anything else.”
He said, “The basic job of the teachers is to impart the education and not to work as clerks. But calling teachers to perform clerical jobs has become a routine. This needs to be checked.”
An analyst said, “It seems that teachers also feel comfortable doing other jobs as these are convenient and comfortable. The government needs to come up with a comprehensive policy to ensure that teachers focus on providing education to the children. Using them for odd jobs is making students suffer.”
He said, “Services of teachers can be utilized in case of emergencies but not always. By doing so we are depriving our children of getting educated.”
