1/25/2022 11:02:29 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 25: Hours after a grenade throwing incident left four injured, the Jammu and Kashmir police claimed that it has arrested the person, who was involved in the attack.
At least three civilians and a police officer were wounded in a grenade attack at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Tuesday evening said that the person who lobbed a grenade in Srinagar has been arrested.
"Srinagar Police arrested grenade thrower who was involved in today's #terror incident at Hari Singh High Street #Srinagar in which a few civilians and one police personnel got injured. #Investigation is going on," a police tweet quoting the IGP Kashmir said.
Police did not reveal the identity of the arrested person immediately.
Official sources said the grenade was lobbed at security forces vehicle on Hari Singh High Street, which exploded on the roadside.
"It exploded with a bang, wounding three civilians and a police inspector," a security officer said. The injured were shifted to a hospital.
"All the injured received minor injuries and are stable," another official said.
Panic gripped the area and people ran for safety. Police and security forces immediately cordoned off the area to track down the militants.
A police spokesman said the grenade attack took place at about 3:25 pm, and it was aimed at a Police vehicle.
"In this terror incident, however, a few civilians sustained minor splinter injuries, besides causing minor damage to the police vehicle," the spokesman said, adding that all the injured have been discharged after required treatment.
Soon after the incident, Police registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law.
The incident occurred a day ahead of India's Republic Day. In Kashmir, the main event will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium in Srinagar.
