A day appointed as Cong's star campaigner Govt awards Azad with Padma Bhushan!

JAMMU, Jan 25: A day after Congress's high command appointed him as one of the star campaigners of the party for the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Union Government on Tuesday awarded Ghulam Nabi Azad with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on shared a list with the names of personalities who will be conferred with the Padma Awards this year. As many as 128 personalities from different fields will be honoured with the Padma Awards.
The list comprises four Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards. Out of 128 awardees, 34 are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who died last year, will receive Padma Vibhushan for Public Affairs. Late CDS General Bipin Rawat will also receive Padma Vibhushan for Civil Service. Meanwhile, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will be honoured with Padma Bhushan for Public Affairs.
Awarding former leader of the opposition with Padma Bhushan award, Union Government has created embarrassing position for Congress party.
The Congress on Monday released a list of 30-star campaigners for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022. Among the star campaigners are party chief Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, and Sachin Pilot.
Earlier while addressing a function at Jammu on February 2021, Azad had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that despite becoming the Prime Minister he hasn't forgotten his roots and proudly calls himself a "Chaiwala".
"People must learn from Narendra Modi, who despite becoming the Prime Minister, hasn't forgotten his roots. He proudly calls himself a Chai-wala'. Though I have serious political differences with Narendra Modi, the PM is a very grounded person", Azad had stated.
