Reasi faces discrimination, Govt not highlighting its tourism potential: Thakur
Terms NHPC as ‘termite,’ says it’s destroying district
1/26/2022 1:21:33 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 25: Member of Mission Youth Romail Singh Thakur on Wednesday said that the government has not put in enough efforts to explore the tourism potential in Reasi district. “Reasi district is famous for religious, natural and adventure tourism. But unfortunately not much effort has been put into highlighting the tourism potential of the district,” Thakur told a local news channel.
He said, “NHPC has become a termite for our area. There is a huge tourism potential at Chinka but the NHPC has put hurdles by claiming that the area cannot be turned into a tourist spot as it’s surrounded by a dam. Till date NHPC hasn’t done anything for the people of our area instead it has just put impediments in our ventures. NHPC has brought our area on the back foot. The NHPC has banned the entry of people into the Chinka area.”
Thakur said, ‘The tourism sector has the potential to provide employment. We had started river rafting with one boat. Today 150 boats are engaged in river rafting. The Tourism Department has done zero work in our area. The TRC building is in shambles and it may collapse anytime. I request the LG sahib to penalize the Tourism Department for neglecting our area.”
He said, “We have Dagan top in our area but it has not been brought up on tourism map. No infrastructure has been developed. Today’s tourists are not interested in staying in hotels. He wants to stay in mud houses and feel the nature but the government has paid no attention towards developing the spots in Reasi District.”
Thakur said, “We have Tata Pani (hot water spring) in Reasi. There are many trekking sites in our area but these have never been highlighted. Our elected representatives haven’t highlighted Reasi as a tourism destination.”
He said, “I want to tell the LG administration that only tourism is left in Jammu which can employ the youth. It should take some initiative to highlight the tourism potential of Reasi District. It’s unfortunate that Reasi has faced discrimination in every way. But as youth we will not allow it. In Himachal Pradesh the government provides funds to youngsters to start tourism ventures but in J&K no one seems bothered.”
