GDC Bishnah series of programmes on Basant Panchami

JAMMU, Feb 8: GDC Bishnah, Deptt of Music organized a 3-day long inter-college competition in online mode on the eve of Basant Panchami under the aegis of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Vasant Panchami the festival to pay obeisance to Goddess Saraswati, the epitome of strength and beauty, was celebrated in GDC Bishnah with a series of competitions to create classical and musical sense among the students. The event started with Saraswati worship and lamp lightening, offer flowers for worship by principal, teaching and non-teaching staff and presented bhajan by Prof. D.S. Manhas and Raga Vasant by Asstt. Prof. Shivani Raina, HOD Music followed by poetry competition and devotional competition.
A lecture-cum-demonstration was also held. The first invited speaker Dr. Surekha Rani Asstt. Prof. in Music from GDC Kathua explained the Vasant Panchmi festival with her poetry, elaborated and presented Rag Bahar. The second invited speaker Asstt. Prof. Mukesh Kumar in Music (Vocal) GDC Hiranagar, mentioned and elaborated the students about Raga Mian Malhar with his marvelous singing. The singing performances by invited speakers enthralled the audience.
The online lecture conducted under the supervision of Principal, GDC Bishnah Dr. Anuradha Pandoh. She expressed her gratitude to the resource person for sharing their valuable knowledge.
In the poetry competition, the first prize was secured by Anmol Sharma, second prize went to Suneha Rana and third prize was bagged by Tania Mehra from GDC Bishnah. In the devotional song competition first prize secured by Akhshay Kumar, second prize secured by Saiket from GDC Boys Udhampur , third prize secured by Nisha Devi from GDC Hiranagar and Jasleen Kour from GDC Bishnah. The appreciation prize goes to Bunty of GDC Udhampur. The programme was organized by Asstt Prof. Shivani Raina, Dr Sunil Kumar Saliada, Prof Rashmi Arya and Dr Randheer Kour. Shivani Raina from Department of Music also presented Raga Vasant and elaborated it and interacted with the students. The whole programme was coordinated by her. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Randheer Kour, Asstt. Prof Department of Punjabi.
