Jambu Zoo still a distant dream for Jammuites
3/6/2022 11:51:28 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 6: Developed by Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department, the much-hyped Jambu Zoo coming up at Khanpur near Nagrota in the city outskirts along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is still a distant dream for the Jammuites.
What to talk of the completion of the prestigious Jambu Zoo when even the entrance of the prestigious project is still under construction.
The dream project has already missed several deadlines for the completion of its first phase as in July 2019 during the time of the then Governor of erstwhile J&K state, Satya Pal Malik, the target was set for December 2020 to complete it.
But that was not realized and again another deadline was allotted to the Jambu Zoo after a few months.
It was said then that it will be completed in December 2021, however, the result remained the same and the completion was once more rescheduled for March 2022.
The work on the project was set to be completed by March 31, 2022 but due to the snail’s pace of work the first phase of Jambu Zoo project was nowhere in sight and sensing the delay the Jammu & Kashmir administration again set a revised deadline for the completion of the work and the same is now scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2022.
However, it is apprehended that the project may not be completed within the next deadline as well and the people of Jammu will be forced to keep on waiting for its completion. Interestingly it is the same Jammu that gave a clear majority to BJP in Lok Sabha elections as well as Local Body polls wherein the party candidates romped home quite comfortably. Despite extending an overwhelming support to the BJP, the fate of many of the developmental projects including Jambu Zoo and Tawi Lake project still hangs in balance as the administration keeps on making a mockery of deadlines for the projects in Jammu.
