Where there is a will there’s a way

The Aam Adami Party (AAP) took a historic decision in Punjab by regularizing 35000 daily wagers.
New Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann after taking over the top most made the announcement without wasting any time and told the people that his government is committed to fulfill the promises made to the people during the election campaign. He recalled that during the election campaign, many daily wagers used to tell him that they were temporary workers and sword was hanging on them. Like Punjab J&K too has an army of daily wagers. There are nearly 60,000 casual workers in Jammu and Kashmir. These workers have been engaged for the past many decades. Many regimes have come into power during all these years but none of the governments has made any attempt to regularize them.
These daily wagers have been used as vote banks by the political parties. Whosoever ruled J&K till date gave them a lollipop of regularization. But no one delivered.
The Aam Admi Party taking a quick decision just within a few days after coming into power has proven beyond doubt that where there is a will there is a way. The J&K politicians should learn from the AAP leaders in Punjab that when anyone means business, he delivers rather than providing lip service only.
The daily wagers in J&K are staring at the bleak future with no wages and no traces of any confirmation even rendering service for years together.
After J&K’s special status was revoked, the daily wagers were promised that they will be regularized but nothing of that sort has happened they are struggling to survive and are waiting for the day when someone would understand their pain and agony. These workers are being denied their wages for months all together. They hit the streets every now and then to get heard but they are beaten and sent back. Ironically, even the wages disbursed in their favour are too meager to even cover the basic living costs for them. In the prevalent situation when cost of living has drastically surged, these workers are paid Rs 225/- per day. It doesn’t even sum up to Rs 6000/ a month.
These daily wagers have been demanding implementation of Minimum Wages Act but no one wants to listen to them. Neither they are being regularized nor are they being paid the minimum wages. They are being given lollipops and are being exploited at one or other pretext.
