Udhampur, Apr 2: Believe it or not the part-time sweepers at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in rural areas get monthly wages of meagre Rs. 200 in J&K Union Territory.
On the condition of not to be named a 56 years old part time sweeper informed that he was engaged for the job in the year 2006 by the Health Department and was getting monthly wages of Rs. 100 till the year 2021 after which the amount was doubled.
“Can the government tell if one can get two time meals for Rs. 200 a month,” he said with despair.
He also informed that when he talked to the concerned BMO with a demand of hike in wages, the BMO suggested him to talk to CMO who in turn said that the documents of the sweepers were sent to the Director Health who has to look into the matter.
Bittu Ram ,43 , Another such sweeper informed that during COVID-19 pandemic they worked day and night and reward for which is that they can’t even have much earnings to give proper food to their families.
All these part time sweepers have urged upon the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to hike their wages so that they may lead a normal life by giving their dependants proper food and clothes.
When contacted CMO Udhampur, K.C Dogra was not available for comments as he cut the call.
