arly Times Report

Jammu, Apr 23: The power situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is worsening with every passing day. Not only are unmetered areas even metered areas of the two capital cities of UT are facing unprecedented power cuts in April.
It is the first time in its history that the Jammu region has been facing unprecedented power curtailment due to the non-availability of power.
According to a Kashmir-based news agency, higher-ups in the government have excused that the government can’t afford to procure electricity from outside Jammu and Kashmir due to the exorbitant rates and that the long power cuts will continue for some more time.
Quoting a senior officer of the Power Development Department, the news agency reported that the present scenario would continue for some time.
“We were ready to procure electricity at the rate of Rs 8, but the rates at present are unaffordable. Nobody can procure the electricity at present,” the news agency quoting the officer and added that electricity has not been procured and thus simultaneously the non-availability of electricity would lead to the power cuts.
Highly placed sources said Jammu and Kashmir government lacks funds to purchase because higher-ups in the government have already spent crores and crores of rupees on publicity just to mislead the nation and the UT.
The incumbent government has created history by spending a huge chunk of funds on publicity.
