Modi Ji, Be Aware of "blacksheep" in JK admin!
4/24/2022 12:59:53 AM
The Acche Din were just round the corner: After seventy odd years of endless struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir against the dynastic rulers and corruption, alike, a ray of hope of good governance had finally emerged on August 5, 2019.
The masterstroke by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to abrogate the so-called special status of Jammu and Kashmir had made the people optimistic of Acche Din finally coming their way. After all, Modi Ji, as the PM is fondly-called, is known for his unblemished honesty, integrity and commitment towards nation building.
But then, over two years on, what has been the hindrance in the realization of the dream of Naya Jammu and Kashmir, when the nation is the able hands of the iconic Prime Minister, even popular for his slogan Na Khawunga Na Khane Dunga?
Well: While the Modi –government has been generous enough to keep adequate resources available to the Raj Bhawan for the deliverance of good governance, some “blacksheep” in the administration are playing the spoilsport.
These “blacksheep”, mainly a coterie of officials and others on deputation in JK, are not only accused of ruthless “corruption of sorts”, their misadventures are leading to public alienation.
For some reasons, it seems that New Delhi is being kept in dark about the real state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir as corruption rules the roost. Whereas, after the last year October visit of Home Minister, Amit Shah, when he is believed to have raised the issue of corruption, JK government has been showcasing some symbolic against corruption, the drive is limited to lower cadre officials and employees. The “big sharks”, on the other hand, are being spared.
The irony is that the Bharatiya Janta Party recently showed the way by sacking its district President for Bandipora on charges of corruption. But the government of J&K is seemingly soft towards the “blacksheep” who are not only accused of ruthless “corruption of sorts” but that their way of handling things has been leading to issues of misgovernance.
Whereas, it’s an open secret that some of the most competent officials have been sidelined, many of those at the helm aren’t working for the national interest.
From elevating erring officials facing corruption charges to key posts to complaints of a “transfer industry” being operational, government is facing allegations of sorts.
The deliverance of the governance is such that the official social media handle of the Raj Bhawan remains flooded with public complaints. But what is shocking is that, unlike the past the government doesn’t respond to such woes even on digital platform than to talk to giving respite on the ground.
The deliverance of governance is such that people of Jammu have been bearing even with civic problems like “power crises” for the last two years in scorching heat of summers while water scarcity is like another “normal.” As about Kashmir, in the latest, after around two years, street protests against power development department have surfaced, a development, which needs to be seriously looked into, given the sensitivity of the situation in the restive region.
While the public alienation is on rise, any local newspaper, which highlights issues of corruption and misgovernaance with the sole aim apprising Modi government about the ground reality, is being gagged through denial of government advertisements and other tactics. Journalists who claim to be Modi bhakts for his integrity are being individually harassed for writing against “corruption of sorts” in J&K government.
The “corruption of sorts” has seemingly left even the bureaucracy divided. Well, Jammu and Kashmir has always had some of the finest bureaucrats. And, there still are such faces in the administration. But then, this fine lot has been largely sidelined in decision making.
The whispers from the Civil Secretariat have been that Modi government should go for a major crackdown over complaints of “corruption of sorts” and misgovernance to find out the “blacksheep” and to deal with them the way they deserve to be dealt with.
When our nation is blessed with a Prime Minister as strong, upright and committed as Modi Ji, what should stop New Delhi from a crackdown on the “blacksheep” whose misadventures are putting the very idea of democracy at stake, and even make the ruling BJP lose ground.
No matter how many resources, the Modi government puts at disposal for J&K, the deliverance of good governance shall be face hurdles till the “blacksheep” are dealt with.
Time has come that Modi government sends a fact-finding team to know the reality.
Given the fact that Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai, for a much-needed crackdown on the “blacksheep”, it’s a now or never moment.
Let’s keep that hope alive -Jai Hind!
