Forced participation of govt employees in BJP rally a constitutional outrage: Harsh Dev Singh
4/26/2022 11:33:20 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 26: Former minister Harsh Dev Singh today said that while lot of expectations had been aroused amongst the people with regard to the PM's visit to Jammu, the event in essence proved to be a mere political function of BJP with the general masses feeling betrayed and demoralized yet again. Singh said this while leading a protest of youth and civil society members at Press Club Jammu today. The protest was organized against the disregard for the genuine concerns of various aspirational groups by the government the funding of a political rally out of state exchequer and the forced participation of government employees in the rally through the coercive apparatus of the state.
The protestors raised slogans against BJP and the J&K administration accusing them of circumventing the constitutional values and throttling the democratic norms. Singh regretted that the unemployed youth, DRWs, contractual etc were once again taken for a ride with the organizers of the rally summoning them for participation but failing to get their concerns addressed. Similar assurances had been doled out to NHM, MGNREGA, Anganwari and Asha workers, PETs, Corona warriors, NYVs and NYCs with none bothering to even make a mention of their pathetic plight. Not a word was said about restoration of statehood or holding of Assembly elections in the near future.
"The grant of ST status to Paharis and Kolis which was the important feature of election manifesto of BJP in 2014 also failed to find any mention from any of the speakers. Singh said that the most outrageous aspect of the said function was the forced involvement of government employees of various departments in the political rally by defying all norms, precedents, service laws and the constitutional provisions. The government employees were warned of dire consequences in case they failed to attend the said rally, the purpose thereby being to augment the strength and enhance the audience in the absence of general masses.
