Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 26: Thanks to Babu Raj, the massive power outages in Jammu are now giving rise to the water paucity in the region with people amid the prevalent scorching heat now denied basic amenity- the water.
As per the reports, Water supply is getting seriously affected due to the long cut of three hours. Electricity supply is available only for 15 hours a day. Due to this, people in many areas are getting water in taps for mere 20 minutes. The biggest problem was in the afternoon, people had to suffer from the heat due to non-operation of fans, coolers, ACs. At the same time, other businesses have started getting affected along with cold beverages due to power cut. Sugarcane juice business has come to a standstill.
Power supply are coming to a to a grinding halt in the old city, Janipur, Bakshi Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Muthi and other areas. There was no electricity in these areas since 8 in the morning and was restored at 10.30 am. After this, there was a cut again at 11 o'clock, which was restored after 12.30 in the afternoon.
Then the light went out at three o'clock in the afternoon, which was restored at five in the evening. At the same time, the power cut continued in the night as well. On the other hand, power outages continued in Bathindi, Sunjwan, Narwal, Bahu Plaza, Nanak Nagar as well. In the midst of the heat, people of Jammu are facing the worst ever times.
At present, the demand for electricity in Jammu and Kashmir is 2800 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA), while the supply is being made close to 1800 MVA. Due to this people have to bear long power cuts. Water supply is also getting affected due to lack of adequate power supply. People say that the government's claims of providing 24 hours electricity have started proving to be hollow.
Early Times has recently reported that the power crisis has started deepening in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a demand of 3100 MW of electricity every day. In contrast, only 1937 MW could be made available in the state. In a bid to further hound the already crisis-ridden business fraternity, Orders have been issued to curtail power supplies in industrial areas in Jammu from 6 to 9 am Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur from 5 to 8 pm. The PDD as per the reports has directed the Jammu division to ensure consumption below 870 MW and Kashmir below 1150 MW. It is being informed that the way the temperatures have surged rapidly in the last few days, the state has consumed 400 MW more power from the northern grid. According to official sources, the consumption of 785 MW in Jammu and 1152 MW in Kashmir has been recorded on Thursday morning.
Northern Grid as per the reports is continuously giving instructions to Jammu and Kashmir to follow grid discipline to get electricity.
