JAMMU, June 14: World Blood Donor Day is celebrated around the world on 14 June to raise awareness about the need for safe blood to save lives. The day is also an opportunity to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. This year, the World Blood Donor Day theme is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”, and aims to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations role in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities. As a part of this event, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu region in collaboration with Sant Nirankari Mandal, Pounichak, Jammu, Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Ramgarh Vijaypur and Hotel Ritz Manor, Channi Himmat, Jammu and Blood Transfusion Department GMC, Jammu had organised series of Blood Donation camps from last four days. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Railway Station, Jammu came forward and organised blood donation camp in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society Jammu region and Government SMGS Hospital, Jammu. The camp was inaugurated by Sat Pal Sharma, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region, Farooq Hussain Shah, Chief Depot Manager, HCPL, Jammu and Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmed, Blood Bank, SMGS Hospital, Jammu. Sat Pal appreciated the spirit of discipline, devotion and dedication of all the volunteers and requested everyone to donate blood regularly in order to maintain adequate supplies and timely access to safe blood transfusion and human lives. He made sure that the society will take giant steps to organise more and more camps to meet the requirements of needy people in the society. |
