Mehbooba trying to revive old relations with Sonia Gandhi
6/14/2022 10:48:22 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 14: Realizing that support of a national party is a must for political survival in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti is trying her best to revive the “old relations” with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
After she met with Sonia Gandhi in April this year, Mehbooba Mufti is availing all opportunities to support the Congress president to iron-out differences that erupted in 2008 when the PDP has withdrawn support of Ghulam Nabi Azad-led coalition government in J&K.
During the period from 2002 to 2008, Mehbooba Mufti had very cordial relations with Sonia Gandhi and she had direct communication with the Congress party.
It was only after June 2008 that some differences emerged and these differences were further widened when Congress formed the government with National Conference in the 2008 assembly elections.
The way Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the Union Government for using agencies to harass opposition leaders is another step towards reviving old relations.
After Enforcement Directorate summoned Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the PDP chief said that the Union Government was using agencies to harass the leaders of the opposition.
Mehbooba said that the BJP-led Government has made the agencies their “alliance partners” to intimidate those raising voices against the Government.
“Those who are raising voices, are being harassed as is being Rahul Gandhi as he is raising his voice for people, and now they are being dragged into such cases. This is a politics of revenge,” she said.
She termed the Enforcement Directorate’s summon to Congress leaders a political witch hunt used to silence them.
