6/7/2023 10:22:32 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 7: World Food Safety Day is observed annually on June 7th with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of preventing, detecting, and managing risks associated with food safety practices. It promotes discussions, solutions, and ways to improve human health, trade, agriculture, and sustainable development. To commemorate this day, the NSS Unit (Imdad) of GDC Darhal organized an awareness campaign based on the theme "Food Standards Save Lives" under the banner of G20 and Mission Life initiative.
During the event, enthusiastic NSS volunteers from the college actively participated. They visited the local market surrounding the college and engaged with food vendors, hotels, and fast food shops, creating awareness about the significance of food standards worldwide in ensuring consumer safety and fostering fair trade in food products. The event was organized under the capable guidance of Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, the Principal of the College. He emphasized that food safety is a shared responsibility, urging each individual to contribute to preserving safe food along the supply chain, from farm to fork.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, the NSS Program Officer, coordinated the entire program. While addressing the participants, he highlighted the importance of consuming safe and hygienic food as a critical factor for maintaining good health. Unsafe food can lead to various diseases and contribute to poor health conditions, including impaired growth and development, micronutrient deficiencies, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and mental health issues. The success of this event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of committee members, namely Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain Shah, Prof. Makhdoom Ahmed, and Prof. Tahir Mahmood.
Overall, the awareness campaign organized by GDC Darhal on "World Food Safety Day" effectively conveyed the message of the importance of food standards and their role in safeguarding public health. It served as a platform for spreading awareness among local food vendors and establishments, contributing to the overall improvement of food safety practices in the community.
