‘Sufarshi’ doctor gets undue promotion, complaint reaches Delhi
6/7/2023 11:02:01 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 7: A complaint of alleged favoritism in the Health department has reached the corridors of power in New Delhi as a Kashmiri doctor has been “unduly” given promotion to the post of Director “bypassing in her seniors in the seniority list.”
Sources said the doctor, who is wife of a former bureaucrat was elevated as Director in family welfare whereas two of the doctors, senior to her were “outright ignored.”
Official documents accessed by the Early Times reveal that two of the doctors, at serial number one and two in the seniority list were seemingly “ignored.”
Senior doctors in the establishment said, as per the convention, the senior most doctor, who was at serial one, was supposed to be given directorship as she was scheduled to retire in the coming weeks.
“There has been a convention in the administration that officials are given promotion even in the last week of their service career as the promotion is supposed to be the reward for their services and seniority but here in this particular case just to appease an influential family, she was given promotion and this is really unfortunate,” said a delegation of doctors on the condition of anonymity.
The doctors said by ignoring the senior-most doctor, a message has been sent that “Sufarshi rules the roost.”
“It’s for New Delhi to probe that if being spouse of a Babu or a retired Babu or former Advisor gives value addition to your service career and thus undue promotion,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
“How can the officials even plead the case that seniors are ignored to benefit the Sufarshi juniors,” the official said.
Sources said some of the senior doctors who enjoy access to the corridors of power in the national Capital have brought the matter to the notice of the Modi government.
“Our complaint is simple that what has changed in Naya Jammu and Kashmir if the tradition of favoritism continues to go on?” some doctors said.
When contacted a senior official defended the decision. “They (senior most doctors in the seniority list) were not promoted as they had less time left time left for retirement,” said the official on the condition of anonymity.
When told that there are numerous instances where the officials get promoted even in the last week of service, he said the matter would be looked into.
Meanwhile the doctors have sought intervention of the central government into the matter. Sources confirmed to the Early Times that the complaint of “undue benefit” has reached the corridors of power in the national capital.
