Vijay Saraf Hails Khelo India Initiative at Women’s Wushu League in Bilaspur

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Mar 23: The "Asmita Khelo India Senior National Women Wushu League" successfully concluded in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, after four days of thrilling competition from March 20 to 23, 2025. The event, organized under the Khelo India initiative, served as a major platform for promoting Wushu in India and nurturing emerging talent in the sport.
The tournament witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Mr. Vijay Saraf, General Secretary of the Indian Wushu Association and President of the Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association, along with Suhel Ahmad from the Indian Wushu Association. Their participation highlighted the growing support for Wushu and its development at the national level.
During the event, the organizers expressed their appreciation for the Government of India, particularly Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for promoting Wushu under the Khelo India National Programme.
They acknowledged the initiative’s role in fostering a robust sports culture across the country.
Vijay Saraf, in his address, emphasized the significance of sports in national development. He praised the Prime Minister’s vision for making India a global sports powerhouse and underscored the need for better infrastructure, world-class training, and increased participation to unlock the full potential of young athletes.
"The Khelo India programme is a game-changer for Indian sports. It is designed to strengthen the grassroots sports ecosystem, ensuring that young talent receives the necessary guidance, exposure, and opportunities to excel. We must continue to inspire youth to engage in sports, keeping them away from negative influences and channeling their energy into productive avenues," said Mr. Saraf.
He also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Jatinder Bajwa, President of the Wushu Federation of India, for his leadership in elevating Wushu’s status in the country. Additionally, he lauded Mr. Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Coach of the Indian Wushu Team, for his invaluable contribution in grooming players who have brought laurels to India on international platforms.
Concluding his address, Mr. Saraf pledged to continue his efforts in engaging more youth in sports, reinforcing the importance of discipline, dedication, and perseverance in building a strong sporting nation.
The Asmita Khelo India Senior National Women Wushu League stands as a testament to India's commitment to fostering sporting excellence and empowering athletes to shine on the global stage.
