CM Omar slams PDP for double standards | Asks why did Mehbooba stay silent on reservation during LS polls | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 20: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday exposed the double standard of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the controversial reservation issue. Interacting with media persons at Jammu, the Chief Minister reminded PDP leaders about the restriction imposed by their party president, Mehbooba Mufti, on them when she (Mehbooba Mufti) was contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag-Poonch-Rajouri seat. “I can retrieve Mehbooba Mufti’s tweet during the Lok Sabha elections, wherein she had directed that nobody in the party is authorized to speak on the issue of reservation”, the Chief Minister said, “during Lok Sabha elections Mehbooba Mufti needed votes from Poonch and Rajouri so she strictly banned her party members from even talking about reservation”. “Why did she not talk about the reservation then?, the Chief Minister asked. He added that his government had submitted the reservation report within six months, and this was the first time such progress had been made. “If I had to waste time, I would have given six more months to the Sub-Committee. What would they have done then? Did they have any way to force me to complete this report in 6 months? The Cabinet has accepted the Sub-Committee’s report and sent it to the law department for their comments,” Abdullah told reporters. |
