Another Milestone
10/9/2025 10:23:56 PM
Northern Railway has achieved yet another milestone in Jammu and Kashmir as for the first time it has carried out simultaneous unloading of two goods rakes in the Union Territory.
According to the media reports the first dual unloading of NMG (New Modified Goods) rakes loaded with Maruti Suzuki vehicles was carried out at goods shed terminals of Jammu division – Bari Brahmana in Jammu and Anantnag in Kashmir valley.
These two automobile rakes were transported from Gurgram in Delhi division to the Bari Brahmana Goods Shed and Anantnag Goods Terminals of Jammu Division. A total of 113 vehicles of various models were unloaded at the Bari Brahmana terminal, while 118 vehicles were unloaded at the Anantnag terminal. It was for the first time that such a large number of vehicles were unloaded at both goods terminals of the Jammu division in a single day, marking a significant historic achievement.
Beyond its operational excellence, this achievement also hints at the emerging economic geography of the Union Territory. The Bari Brahmana industrial area has long been an economic hub of Jammu, while Anantnag, traditionally seen as an agrarian region, is gradually opening up to industrial and commercial activities. The fact that automobile consignments — a symbol of modern consumer demand — are now reaching and being distributed from both regions reflects expanding market potential and a rising appetite for economic activity in Kashmir.
From a logistical perspective, the use of NMG rakes for automobile transport is an environment-friendly and cost-efficient mode of freight movement. By facilitating bulk transport directly into the UT, it reduces road congestion, cuts carbon emissions, and lowers end costs for consumers. This aligns with the government’s broader focus on sustainable transport and green logistics.
Moreover, such initiatives are pivotal in bolstering investor confidence. For industries considering expansion into J&K, efficient freight operations signal improved accessibility and reliability — two critical factors for setting up manufacturing and distribution networks.
Northern Railway’s achievement is, therefore, not just about moving goods; it is about moving forward. It symbolizes the changing landscape of Jammu and Kashmir — one where progress is measured not merely in infrastructure built but in opportunities delivered.
As dual unloading becomes a norm rather than a novelty, the tracks of development will continue to converge, carrying the promise of prosperity to every corner of Jammu and Kashmir.
