| HC upholds detention of woman OGW | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 7: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has upheld a detention of a woman Over Ground Worker (OGW). The Division Bench led by Chief Justice and Justice Rajnesh Oswal dismissed an appeal filed by Shaista Maqbool, who had challenged her detention under the Public Safety Act. The court noted that she was allegedly acting as an overground worker (OGW) for the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and had developed close contact with Pak-based terrorists, including the nephew of Lashkar co-founder Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, one of the masterminds of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The Bench observed that the detention order was passed after detailed consideration of intelligence inputs and that all constitutional safeguards had been complied with. The court held that the allegations were not vague and justified her preventive detention considering security concerns of the Union Territory. (JNF) |
