JAMMU, Nov 7: A doctor from Kashmir working at a private hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for his alleged involvement in putting up posters supporting the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The accused, identified as Dr. Adil Ahmed, a resident of Anantnag district, was detained following a meticulous investigation by the Srinagar Police, who had been tracking a suspect responsible for circulating pro-JeM posters at several locations across the city. According to officials, CCTV footage captured a man placing the posters, and subsequent analysis led investigators to Dr. Ahmed. Acting on this information, a police team from Srinagar, assisted by local law enforcement and the Special Operations Group (SOG), conducted a coordinated raid at a private hospital on Ambala Road in Saharanpur, where the doctor was taken into custody. Confirming the development, Additional Superintendent of Police (City), Vyom Bindal, said Dr. Ahmed was presented before a court, which granted transit remand to the Jammu and Kashmir Police to facilitate his transfer to Srinagar for further questioning. “After completing legal formalities, the accused has been handed over to the J&K Police team for continuation of the investigation in Srinagar,” ASP Bindal stated. Authorities in Saharanpur have also intensified background verification drives, especially in local healthcare institutions where several professionals from Jammu and Kashmir are currently employed. Police sources said the probe was initiated after multiple JeM posters surfaced in Srinagar last month, prompting the registration of a case and a review of surveillance footage in the affected areas. Following Dr. Ahmed’s arrest, investigators are now examining whether he acted alone or as part of a larger network. The accused has been taken to Srinagar for detailed interrogation, and further investigation is underway. |
