JAMMU, Dec 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Ganderab Singh, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Thalora in Majalta tehsil, and Kuldeep Kumar, a Chowkidar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. As per an ACB official, a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS, 2023, was registered against both officials at ACB Police Station Udhampur. According to him, the complainant approached the bureau after the Patwari allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to correct his name in the revenue records. A discreet verification confirmed the bribe demand, following which a formal FIR was registered and an investigation was launched, he said. A trap team led by a DySP was constituted, and both accused were caught red-handed while taking the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses, the ACB official further said. “The bribe money was recovered on-the-spot, and both men were arrested after completing legal formalities,” he said. He said searches were also carried out at the Patwari’s residential accommodation in Khoon, Majalta, in the presence of a Magistrate. He said further investigation in the case is underway. |
