Jammu: Fast Track Court rejects anticipatory bail plea of rape accused
2/14/2026 10:47:18 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 14 :The Fast Track Court, Jammu, has refused anticipatory bail to Manjinder Singh in a rape and blackmail case, while coming down heavily on the police for their “astonishing” inability to arrest the accused even after over a month of FIR registration.
Presiding Officer Fast Track Court Amarjeet Singh Langeh recorded that the allegations involve repeated sexual exploitation of the victim by threatening to make her alleged nude video viral, with the complainant further alleging that she conceived a child as a result of the relationship. Terming the accusations serious and alarming, the court questioned the credibility of the investigation itself.
Taking a stern view of police conduct, Presiding Officer Fast Track Court Amarjeet Singh Langeh observed that while the investigating agency claimed custodial interrogation was necessary, it was “hard to fathom” how the accused remained at large. The court bluntly remarked that such inaction either reflects gross failure of duty or the influence wielded by the accused, warning that it sends a dangerous message to the public and undermines faith in law enforcement.
The court also expressed shock over the 14-day delay in recording the prosecutrix’s statement under Section 183 of BNSS, despite the FIR having been registered earlier, and noted that even the investigating officer had been changed mid-investigation.
Dismissing the plea for interim protection from arrest as untenable, the court ordered that a copy of the judgment be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, for information and necessary action—signalling serious concern over the manner of investigation.
The case has now been listed for final arguments on February 18, 2026. (JNF)
