Pvt schools fleece parents, students 4/2/2016 12:09:15 AM Mohammad Irfan Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 1: As the new academic session has commenced parents and students have started thronging the bookshops in Jammu to purchase the books for the new session. Interestingly, parents are being directed by the respective schools to buy books from the 'particular books shops'. As the standard of the government schools has degraded due to which parents prefer to send their children to the private schools following which there is cut throat competition for education and there has been abrupt increase in the strength of the private schools and schools owners are taking undue benefit of this. Sources told Early Times that with academic session round the corner publishers are waiting anxiously for the session to start as they can to mint money on the name of providing education to the children. "There is unholy nexus between private schools and book publishers. This has been going on for years together under the very nose of the authorities," they added. A group of parents whose children are studying in different schools said, " School management compels us to buy the books from the particular book shops at exorbitant rate." They alleged that besides books they are forced purchase the stationery items from particular stores at higher rates. Sources divulged private schools which are affiliated with JKBOSE have NCERT books but now the trend has changed as different schools prescribe different books of different publication which have also put question mark over the so called claims of the JKBOSE. Parents allege that private schools owners take 'commission' from the publishers. An expert pleading anonymity said" NCERT books are very helpful for the students and these are not being taught in private schools as the school administration forces students to purchase new books of different publishers." Despite repeated attempts, Commissioner Secretary School Education Department Shaleen Kabra didn't pick up the phone, nor did the Director School Education Jammu Smitha Sethi respond to the repeated calls.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
